Mexican Drug War comes to Jonesboro Arkansas – “Operation Ice Princess”
According to the AP, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said last week that the security on the southern U.S. border "is better now than it ever has been" and that violence from neighboring Mexico hasn't spilled over in a serious way. However, according to a press release issued on October 14, 2010, by the U.S. Attorney General’s office for the Eastern District of Arkansas, the activities of the Mexican Cartels have already spilled over into Arkansas, including the City of Jonesboro.
On October 6, 2010, a grand jury for the Eastern District of Arkansas returned an 11-count indictment charging 13 individuals in the Jasso-Arciniega drug trafficking organization with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, methamphetamine distribution, and unlawful re-entry to the United States after prior deportation. In addition, 7 other individuals were separately charged with federal offenses of distribution of methamphetamine.
According to federal authorities the Jasso-Arciniega drug trafficking organization was based in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and had been involved in the distribution of multiple pounds of methamphetamine ice, as well as multi-kilogram quantities of powder cocaine through established distributors based in central Arkansas communities including, Jonesboro; Searcy; Kensett; Batesville; Rose Bud; Little Rock; and Conway.
